Fabric Covering (Rapping Rag)

The interior comes first. It's covered just like the exterior.

There are four Pipers in this picture. There are two PA-22's in the back, a totalled PA-22 to the right and my Vagabond in the middle.

The interior is complete including the primer/filler/UV coat. We used the Air-Tech process throughout the project.

We opted to cover the area inside the boot cowl. This dresses her up a bit like the Tri-Pacer.

I insulated the cabin area with double sided aircraft insulation.

The top rib requires two rib stitches.

The bottom panel has been glued in place. Next the joints all get ironed with a small hobby iron. This insures that the glue flows for a strong joint.

The bottom panel is now tightened with a iron.

The side panel is installed including the window. When working the window you cut darts in the fabric so it can fold into the curve of the window.

The cables are installed and taped out of contact with the fabric.

This is how the blanket method is done. The fabric is rolled out, clipped in a few places and rough trimmed. It helps to have two sets of hands.

Wayne welded up this little wonder when I wasn't looking. It's attached to the tailwheel spring mounting points. It worked great.

Finish tapes get applied everywhere a fuselage member touches the fabric. The inspection rings are also installed.
